I try, relatively often, to find new songs to listen to. If I'm not actively seeking them out, I stumble across them when I'm watching TV, YouTube or even listening to the radio on a drive. In the last year, I've found a lot of songs by watching NPR Tiny Desk Concerts or randomly selecting playlists on Spotify. So, I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I've come across and am listening to on repeat. Also, I think I'm gonna do a few music-related posts because I can!

1. Like, Really Cunt by B. Ames

I may not know how to vogue, duck walk or death drop but everytime I hear this song, I imagine that I can! It's the perfect song to start a livestream with because it really gets the blood pumping. Plus, it's just fun to listen to!

2. In n Out by Latto and City Girls

Another livestream staple, this song makes me giddy. The chorus makes me laugh. The beat makes me wiggle. I can't help sing along, even if I hardly relate. Just an all around fun bop.

3. Cyber Sex by Doja Cat

I had heard this song years and years ago and for some reason, didn't really like it. Then I rediscovered it on a Spotify playlist and now it's on constant rotation. I think I just like the "I wanna get freaky on camera" part because it's so damn relatable in my life right now!

4. Purgatorying by Alanis Morisette

We all know I'm a sucker for Alanis - always have been, always will be! This month, I finished adding all the songs I had forgot to in the past and somehow discovered that I had never heard this song. The bass line on this song is insane and I gasp everytime she says equipp-ed, because seriously, who does that?!? Alanis, that's who!

5. Came Out of a Lady by Rubblebucket

It's not my usual type of song or artist but I immensely enjoyed watching their NPR Tiny Desk Concert and then found this song and whenever I'm feeling a way, the "You came out of a lady hole" part makes me laugh out loud. Good vibes!

6. Hunger for Death by PUP

Another Tiny Desk find, although I'm always surprised that I hadn't heard of PUP before because they're right up my alley! And I freaking love this song - couldn't exactly tell you why but I listen to it almost everytime I listen to music lately. And I sing it oh so loud!!!

7. God Does by The Red Clay Strays

I don't believe in God and I don't normally like country/folky songs but sometimes these types of songs just get me and I find them fun to sing and listen to. I also really appreciate the quality of the lead singer's voice and their Tiny Desk, which they claimed was "Sad Boy Summer", was an interesting watch.

8. Walk My Walk by Breaking Rust

I found this one and it gave me The Boyfriend vibes. Many moons ago, we discovered Keep the Wolves Away by Uncle Lucius and he loved it and ever since, any time I find a song about a man struggling with the pressures of life, I decide I must add it for The Boyfriend. He's a guy who doesn't outwardly struggle much but I know that he's gotta inside somewhere, right?

9. Got My Mind Set On You by George Harrison

It's an oldie and I don't know how it wasn't already on my playlist but I have been listening to this one daily. I wake up with it stuck in my head and have to listen to it to get it out of there!

10. The World We Built by The Wild Weeds

Some of you might remember that I covered another song by The Wild Weeds recently and as I delved into their discography, heard this one. At first, I hated it - loathed it even. It is quirky and doesn't sound like it should sound like this and it's kinda haunting and weird. But the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. It catches my attention every single time!

11. Bassline Bitch by Nova Twins

Yet another Tiny Desk find (last one, I swear)! The bassist had my jaw on the floor time the whole time I was watching them, so you know I had to run and listen to as much as I could. While they have many great options, I just enjoyed this one the most, because I'm a sucker for anything with the word "bass" in it!

12. pirate song by mehro

The voice, the simplicity, the steadiness. I could listen to this song a thousand times and never get bored of it!

13. THANK GODDESS by Qveen Herby

I listen to this song more than I'd like to admit - it's my current bop. It sounds great, it's fun to blast, it makes my heart happy and the "dirty mouth but my prrr pristine", gives me life!!!

I go through periods where I'm constantly listening to new music and then I go through phases where I'll only listen to "oldies". October and November of this year, I just kept adding more and more songs to my liked songs - which is sitting at about 5050 tracks right now.

So, now I'm dying to know:

  • Have you ever heard these songs before? Which one(s)?

  • Did you discover any songs you hadn't heard before? Which one(s)?

  • Out of the 13 songs above, which one is your favorite?

  • Do you watch NPR Tiny Desk Concerts? Ever found a new favorite artist that way?

  • Any other Alanis Morissette lovers out there?

  • What are some new songs you've been listening to lately?

  • Got anymore music recommendations for me?

  • Any other thoughts?
